Around 5,000 protesters gathered in the centre of Paris Saturday to march against austerity policies imposed by Francois Hollande’s government. The demonstrators marched from Denfert-Rochereau, carrying banners bearing anti-austerity messages and banners decrying the perceived betrayal of Hollande leftist principals. Predominantly made up of members from left-wing parties including the New Anti-capitalist Party or the Left Front, both leaders, Olivier Besancenot and Jean-Luc Melenchon participated in the rally. Hollandes popularity in France continues to plummet, receiving a 12 percent approval rating this month in a survey by YouGov, down by 15 percent from last months ratings. youtu.be/VmbIYLDd1AA M/S Jean-Luc Melenchon, Left Front leader, participating to the protest SOT, Alexis Zmerina, Phd student and Left Front member (English): I think that people are here participating the march because they are against the austerity policies that the Francois Hollandes government promised to push back. These austerity policies consists of massive cuts in the social spending, huge tax break for big corporation, and this is precisely what Hollande promised not to do.
