Arrangements have been made to sign the China-Sri Lanka Free Trade Agreement prior to the Commonwealth Heads of State Summit. This is the first time China has agreed for sun an agreement in Asia and it is a unique and special FTA extended and offered only to Sri Lanka. Ministry of Economic Promotion Mr. Lakshman Yapa Abeywardene said that the agreement which would be implemented from this November will be of immense advantageous to Sri Lanka. The Minister said that FTA would allow selected Sri Lankan items to be exported to China on 100% zero duty. He said that under the agreement Sri Lankan companies will have the opportunity to export to the large Chinese market thus opening a new era of trade. The Minister said that the Sri Lankan apparel sector is one to benefit first. He said that the list of items to be included in the FTA is being prepared at present
