Art Competition Walanbaa Gaayili Out of Home Care Service with the assistance of Arts North West Aboriginal Culture Support Program is looking for an Aboriginal Artist to supply feature art pieces for their office. Walanbaa Gaayili Out of Home Care Service is the name for the new service providing foster care for Aboriginal Children and Young People in the New England and Northern Tablelands region of NSW. The service commenced operations on 7 January 2013 and is based at Inverell. The agency’s aim to provide care in a family-like or personalised setting for children and young people who are unable to live at home, while keeping the ties they already have with their family and community. Key goals for our children and young people are: Safe and developing optimally in a stable environment Successfully returned to their parents where possible Placed in a safe and stable placement well matched to their needs Key principles of out-of-home care are: Permanency for children as early as possible Maintaining cultural identity and connections with family and community Participation of children and young people in decision-making about their lives Supporting carers to care for children and young people Walanbaa Gaayili means “Strong Children” in Gamilaraay language. The Brief - Aboriginal Artists from the Bingara, Tingha, Tenterfield, Ashford, Glen Innes and Inverell areas should create artwork that depict children/young people with parents who are safe and strong. This is not restricted to people and can be done through iconism such as animal form or symbols. The artwork must tell a story that will be displayed with selected artwork/s. Remuneration for the artworks supplied is negotiable and will depend on the size of the works, quality of materials and works and experience of the artist. CLOSING DATE AND CONDITIONS: Aboriginal artists from the relevant area are invited to submit their completed works to one of the drop off points before close of business Friday, 27th September 2013. All artworks must be accompanied by the artists name, phone number, email address, home address, story and the price they are asking for the piece. All artists agree that if their artwork is chosen the artwork will become the property of the Walanbaa Gaayili OoHCS following payment of the piece. All artworks received will be on display at the official office opening where the selected artworks will be announced, all remaining artwork will be returned to the drop off points for collection within 2 weeks of the opening.
