Art Mixed-Use Project Approved in Phoenix September 26, 2013KellyLeave a comment A project designed to spur the arts in a neglected section of Phoenix has won the approval of the Phoenix City Council. The Green Art Park will be built on a vacant lot next door to the nonprofit art gallery Alwun House at Roosevelt and 12th streets in the Garfield Neighborhood of Phoenix. According to the design plans for the project, the lot will house art galleries, performance art space, parking and a farmer’s market. Building costs for the project are estimated at $260,000. The Alwun House, which will operate the park, is spearheading a private donation drive for its construction. The City of Phoenix has also pledged an additional $100,000 to get the project off the ground. If all goes as planned, construction on the Green Art Park will begin in December, with a completion date of spring 2014.
