Article 370 exists on papers only: Hurriyat (G) ‘Sheikh Abdullah Virtually Revoked It For CM’s Post’ GK News Network Srinagar, June 27: Hurriyat Conference (G) on Thursday claimed the Article 370 existed nowhere except on papers as late Sheikh Muhammad Abdullah, according to it, virtually agreed to its abrogation in 1975 in lieu of the chief minister’s chair for himself. Commenting on the statement of chief minister Omar Abdullah, a spokesman of the Hurriyat in a statement today, termed it ridiculous and a mere political stunt. “NC has been playing deceptive politics. Late Sheikh Muhammad Abdullah virtually abrogated article 370 in 1975 and agreed for appointment of designate Governor by Delhi and also accepted to be sworn in as chief minister and gave up its demand for Prime Minister’s designation,” said the spokesman. Commenting on Omar Abdullah’s statement that any attempt by anyone on this sensitive issue would be on our bodies, the spokesman said the issue relating to autonomy and article 370 served as a political stunt for National Conference. “The NC is very much aware about fact that they were instrumental and responsible for harming the Article. The NC leadership also knows that Delhi will in no way grant special status or allow its restoration. They under the garb of these issues are playing with the sentiments of innocent people. They always betrayed the people by raising these issues to serve their political interests. They could have achieved what they demand now with respect to article 370 and autonomy when they had two- third majority in the legislature but they are not sincere in what they say. It was simple for them to present a bill for the subject. However, they knew that they could not go against the Delhi’s intent. For it would be at the cost of their power. It is their lust for power that they did not do anything like that,” said the spokesman, adding that “now they are exploiting the sentiments over these two issues. Referring to the statement of Omar Abdullah wherein he had termed the article 370 as constitutional bond between state and India, the spokesman said, adding that “There existed neither legal nor moral relation between India and Jammu and Kashmir and the present ties are obviously on the basis of forced control. It is a relation between an oppressor and an oppressed.”
