Article III Casting the best actor for the part is a more complex - TopicsExpress

Article III Casting the best actor for the part is a more complex idea than may at first appear. Because theatre is political (see Article I), we want actors who can commit to the underpinning philosophy of the play. (WHAT the play says.) Because theatre reflects the world in which it exists, we want actors who are an integral part of that same world. Though just as the audience may come from hundreds of mile away, so may the actors. (See Article II for rehearsal process.) Because casting the play RIGHT is essential for anything worthwhile to follow, those being considered may not know they are being considered, and the director may not ultimately decide the cast. In fact, the position of director maybe cast along with the actors. And casting maybe but the largest part of a very large process.
