Article from AL - Emma and Reese made the paper as well as our great team of swimmers from WMSC! MOBILE, Alabama - Another Mobile County Aquatic League City Swim Meet, another set of records for William Jameson. The MCAL meet ended on Saturday at the Bishop State pool with the West Mobile Swim Team competitor adding two more records to his collection, which now totals 10 for the city meet. Jameson set a pair of records on both days of the meet and was named the MCAL Male Swimmer of the Year. West Mobiles Ashton Ellzey was the Female Swimmer of the Year after breaking three meet records. On Saturday, Jameson won the 9-year-old boys 50-yard breaststroke in 38.21 seconds, eclipsing the meet record of 39.39 of Charles Hickox. Jameson won the race by 7.5 seconds. Jameson also lowered the record in the 9-year-old boys 50-yard butterfly, covering the distance in 32.46. Matt Busbees 33.27 had been the best mark in meet history. On Friday, Jameson had set meet records in the 9-year-old boys 50-yard backstroke and the 9-year-old boys 100-yard individual medley. Jameson still holds the meet records for 7-year-olds in 25-yard backstroke and 100-yard individual medley and for 8-year-olds in the 25-yard freestyle, 25-yard backstroke, 25-yard breaststroke and 100-yard individual medley. Jameson started swimming when he was 2 and joined a swim program when he was 5. Now, he also competes for the City of Mobile Swim Association team and holds more than 40 records at meets across the Southeast. The rising fourth-grader at St. Pauls said he swims between 2 to 4 miles every day in training for a simple reason: So I can come in here and do what I do. In his record-breaking races, Jameson sometimes has found himself far out front. On Friday, he won the 9-year-old boys 50-yard backstroke by 10.22 seconds, meaning he swam the race 23 percent faster than any of his competitors. Jameson said he doesnt need other swimmers or even records to motivate him. He has one goal: Just do my best. Jameson hopes his best will eventually take him to Stanford and the Olympics. Ellzey, 16, came back with two meet records on Saturday after lowering her record in the 15- through 18-year-old girls 50-yard freestyle with a 24.29 clocking on Friday. On Saturday, she broke the records in the 15- through 18-year-old girls 50-yard butterfly in 26.54 and the 50-yard backstroke in 28.65. However, Caroline Raley of Oakwood lowered the 50-yard backstroke record even more by turning in a 28.36 on Saturday. Jameson and Ellzey, who swim for coach Brian Evans at West Mobile, helped the Marlins repeat as meet champions. West Mobile finished with 3,640.5 points, with Lake Forest Swim Club second at 2,874. Oakwood Swim and Racquet Club, which finished third overall with 1,991.5 points, topped the Division II standings. Country Club of Mobile, which was fifth overall with 923 points, led the Division III standings. Division I is for clubs with 101 or more swimmers. Division III is for clubs with 50 or fewer swimmers. Division II is for clubs in between. Another meet record fell during the competition. Oakwood, with two 13-year-olds swimming, broke the mark in the 15- through 18-year-old girls 200-yard medley relay at 1:56.57. Raley, 17, Grace Veselits, 15, and the 13-year-olds, Elizabeth Thompson and Mary Katherine Stewart, formed the record-setting team. However, Spring Hills A team lowered the record in that event even more with an 11-year-old swimming a leg. Spring Hill turned in a 1:53.51 with 18-year-olds Cooper Brown and Natalie Wagnon, 15-year-old Rachel Wagnon and 11-year-old Alice Carey doing the swimming. Seven swimmers won five individual titles - Jameson, Stewart, Levenia Sim of Lake Forest in 7-year-old girls, Alyssa Dennis of Lake Forest in 9-year-old girls, Olivia Smith of Lake Forest in 12-year-old girls, Stephen Conrad of Country Club of Mobile in 10-year-old boys and Harry Waltsgott of Oakwood in 13-year-old boys. Close races were the rule during the meet, but none was closer than the 6-and-younger girls 25-yard butterfly. Emily Gillis of West Mobile won in 25.65 - 0.01 seconds better than teammate Emma Earheart. After the meet, the Amberly Swim Club was named the winner of the LeVaughn Hanks Sportsmanship Award, Joe Wilson of Woodland Swim Club was named the MCAL Coach of the Year and Woodland Swim Club won the city meets Spirit Award.
