Article fromRacing Pluse Star Empire puts his rivals in the shade Star Empire, the Patrick Quinn-trained runner handed a solid drubbing to his five rivals, including the Vijay Singh-trained course-favourite, Snowscape, on Tuesday, in the afternoon`s feature event, the 1,400m Tangiers Cup. In the process of his victory, the horse fully justified his recent form when he finished close behind Dandified. Pradip Chauhan partnered Star Empire, a 2-1 second favourite, to about three-length victory over Vijay Monarch while Snowscape failed to touch the board. Quinn also led in the winner of the 1,100m Mr Darcy Handicap when his speedster Royal Honour ridded in a check to a well-judged victory by apprentice Zarar Alam. The afternoon also witnessed trainer Javed Khan`s 6-1 chance, Moonlit Sky, producing an inspired performance to record her maiden victory in the hands of jockey Kishore Kadam who also ended the day with a priced double. Kadam`s next winner was trainer Daniel David`s 9-2 shot Rembrandt, also a facile winner in the 1,400m Fly High Handicap. In fact, favourites had taken a day off during the afternoon as they fell like nine pins in the seven-event card. The biggest blow was dealt by trainer Jasbir Singh`s Tasveer who covered miles from the wrong-end of the field to overhaul the field in the 1,800m Prudential Handicap. Star Empire and Daniel`s Vijay Monarch were held back right behind the leader Dear Henry while jockey Christopher Alford showed no urgency on Snowscape and let the 12-10 favourite gallop almost in the rear of the six-horse field. Leads changed hands inside the distance-post and Star Empire took over the running to leave the opposition to fight it out for the minor placings. However, Snowscape never worked his way up giving some credence to racecourse whispers that all was no well with the Calcutta Derby winner. Tasveer`s victory was ensured by an early hot-pace cut by the top-weighted Goliath and the last outing winner Sheriff. The two leaders carried on to burn themselves up right till the home turn and it also made the chasing lot of Tintoretto and Jamaican a spent force. All four started going backwards, instead of making forward moves. As a result Tasveer, who trailed the field, came up with the raking strides to lead 200m from home and accounted for the 7-10 favourite, Lady Ship, who also made some headway in the home straight. The outcome of the Mr Darcy Handicap also had some resemblance to the early hot pace generated by Super Hero and Ares, the longtime leaders who amply contributed to the victory of Quinn`s Royal Honour. Moonlit Sky was a quiet fancy, in the 1,800m Affection Handicap. The European daughter was right on target from the start, as she joined Daniel`s Ballet Balle upfront and took over on her own at the top of the home turn with a length, two, three, and finished the race in-excess of six lengths ahead of the 9-10 favourite, Self Directed, who was conceding four-kg to the winner. Much was expected from the hot-favourite, Copernicus, presently trained by Robert Gowli, in the absence of trainer Bharath Singh, who has been suspended for the drug related offence—till the season`s end. However, Bharath`s ghost was right there and the Mathematician colt not only found the second favourite and the ultimate winner, Apical Finala, a hard nut t o crack, he was also pushed back to the third berth by one of the early leaders, Haynestown, who, however, put in an improved performance. With jockey Dashrath Singh making an air dash, purely for the benefit of trainer Arti Doctor`s last outing easy winner, Antara, the odds, 11-10, offered on the four-year-old reflected the intention of the stable. However, Kadam atop Rembrandt had other ideas. The wily jockey kept his charge right behind, Gowli-Bharath`s runaway leader, River Down Empress, till the home turn and kicked away to leave Antara in a wild goose chase. In the same race trainer Vikash Jaiswal`s Abarth was a good third and warrants following. Jaiswal, however, had his day made when Gonna Be A Rokstar (Gajender Sing-up) returned to the winner`s enclosure, having fought a grim battle with a heavily wagered Rutherford Alford`s charge, La Dominique (Ch Chary-up), in the curtain raiser, the 1,400m Antonique Handicap.
