Artist Profile : Blue Stew with Michael P. Miller Start with 1 pint of Mississippi delta Blues, add a dash of Muddy Waters followed by a dab of funky Lowell George and Ry Cooder, then sprinkle with a pinch of melancholy. Simmer until the crowd cant sit still. Thats the recipe for Blue Stew... Blue Stew has made a name for themselves with a down home blending of Blues, Swamp, Cajun and Gospel influenced music. Based in California and formed in 1994, they have played shows with Little Feat, Duke Robillard, Eddy Clearwater, Roomful of Blues, Larry Carlton, The Blasters, Storyville, Doug Sahm & The Last Real Texas Blues Band. Their music has had substantial radio play as well as glowing reviews in Blues Revue, Blues Access, L.A. Times, Blues Bytes. Blue Stew add other influences to their blues on their album, Headed South (Silk City 2024). While Thats What Lovers Will Do and The Laundromat are straightforward, swinging shuffles and Im A Slave To You is a slow blues with a hipster attitude, Three Days To Louisiana is reminiscent of Little Feat, and La Fayette Cajun Fest and Fais Do Do is pure Cajun (even if it is sung in English). Refreshingly, the late Michael Miller and John Boutell are obviously more concerned with their roles as primary singers and songwriters than with impressing listeners with guitar chops. Case in point: Millers evocative road trip song Blues For The Bearcat is easily among the best recordings of the last year. Equally at home playing electric or acoustic music, Michaels most final effort was his solo release, “Homeward”. This CD is a mix of acoustic and electric ‘gospel blues’ that aims straight for the heart and reaches the listeners soul. This album is STUNNING. Melodic, lyrical, gritty, well executed and well recorded…STEEPED in Blues, Gospel and Roots … For recordings by Blue Stew and the late Michael Miller, visit silkcitycd
