Artists.. These shameful acts are still taking place in our very community in Calgary, where organizers and funders of the arts continue to make out dated - old excuses why not to negotiate with independent, professional artists, with regards to fees: ------------- Hi Vi An, I completely understand your reservations and certainly value your professionalism. __________________ is funding this project. We have negotiated reduced rates from our agency and production company, and have received confirmation from other artists to do the work either for free or on this smaller honorarium. That said, I do understand where you are coming from. Next email..... ---------- HI Vi An, I have looked at the project as a whole and have decided to go another route. As we are offering the same honorarium to all of our artists, and it has been happily accepted by each of them, I don’t feel comfortable paying one more than another. I completely understand your position and I would hate for anyone to be involved that isn’t totally excited for and comfortable with it, and I also don’t want any resentment to ensue. So, thank you for your consideration. I’m sure we will have the opportunity to work together on another level one day soon. There are plenty of great opportunities coming in the future and we certainly value you and your artistic talent. Thanks again for your time and consideration. Best, -------------- Sorry, what consideration now? You just presented the project and the fee, there was NO negotiation process what so ever for me to consider anything. It is NOT about paying a single artist more or less, it is having the BALLS to negotiate rates for each artist. If you cant even do that, YOU should NOT be in the position to work with artists, am I correct? If you dont know how to negotiate or you refuse to period, then you should essentially be demoted - correct???? To THOSE artists out there who agree to take little or NOTHING home after work, I am completely ashamed of you, when you do this you PUT THE REST of US to shame, completely, because then everyone who wants to hire an artist, will use this lame A$$ excuse till you bleed. SHAME!!!!!!! More to come... This isnt the only FAIL of the month. SHAME!!!!!!!
