Artists to Help Conserve Open Spaces in Douglas County Join us for Douglas Land Conservancys first Plein Air painting exhibit and sale on Saturday, June 28 2014 from noon to 6:00pm at Dawson Butte Open Space. Noted regional and local landscape artists will gather in June for a Plein Air painting event to help protect open space in Douglas County. The artists, about 20 from Montana, New Mexico and Colorado, will spend the week of June 23 on private open space protected by conservation easements held by Douglas Land Conservancy (DLC). Pikes Peak and the Greenland open space are just a few of the views painters will be able to capture in the Plein Air art event being hosted June 23-28 by the Douglas Land Conservancy. During the week, from Wednesday through Friday, the artists will bring their works in progress to the Art on the Edge gallery in downtown Castle Rock. The public is invited to visit the gallery, the home of the Castle Rock Arts Guild, in the evenings from 6 to 8 pm on Wednesday and Thursday and from 6 to 9 pm on Friday to view the progress of the paintings and purchase finished artwork prior to the exhibit and sale. On Saturday, June 28, all of the artists will gather at Dawson Butte Open Space from noon to 6 p.m. to exhibit and sell their works. Dawson Butte Open Space is a public open space southwest of Castle Rock. It is owned by Douglas County and protected by a conservation easement held by DLC. During the exhibit and sale there will be food and beverages available for purchase and demonstrations by some of the artists. DLC staff and volunteers will be there to help visitors purchase art and enjoy the afternoon. The exhibit and sale on the June 28 is a free public event.
