Arts & Culture As a professional designer and writer, the arts have always been very close to my heart, and I believe very strongly that access to community art programs can significantly improve someone’s life (at any age). Whether through music, visual arts, performance arts, film, or literature, community art programs can instill great traits in someone’s personality, and provide them with a creative outlet for the rest of their life. There is no better feeling than learning a new skill, carrying it with you, and sharing it with the people in your life. Currently, there are a number of programs available through schools, community centers, and libraries that allow access to the arts, but there is always room for improvement. As Ward 6 councillor, I will facilitate and support the advancement of these programs within our local community and believe that access to the arts is one of the most important things that a community can provide to its residents. Culture is another important aspect of life in Milton. With a diverse group of residents originating from different cultures, it’s important for us to all learn about and celebrate each other’s cultures. At times our world can be very segregated, and that’s not the best way for us to all learn from each other and grow as a group – we are Canadians, and as Canadians we are one and the same. We need to come together and celebrate each and every culture that represents us, and create our own culture of diversity, tolerance, and respect among our local community.
