Arusha conflict not directed at tourists... Saturday’s bomb blast at a political rally in Arusha, in which two people died, was politically motivated, and not directed at foreign tourists, according to tourism stakeholders in the region. Amanda Mitchell of Nomad Marketing says the industry is following the situation closely, but says the incidents are related to forthcoming local elections. “Most of the recommended accommodation options for guests spending a night in Arusha are located well away from the city centre and we are kept appraised of any potential security issues by KK Security,” says Mitchell. “There are no problems that we are aware of in any other part of the country that might be cause for concern for travellers, nor have any formal travel advisories been issued. We would like to reassure guests that they should not be unduly alarmed by the reports on the Internet, but to be aware of the situation and avoid the centre of towns wherever possible,” she concludes. The Tanzania Association of Tour Operators said tourism stakeholders contributed medical supplies to three hospitals to help the treatment of blast victims. “While we wish the victims recovery, we wish further to state that the situation is back to normal and there is no threat of chaos in the near future,” said a statement.
