As Arsenals search for a new striker continues, one player that can be categorically struck off the north London clubs January wish list, is Manchester City marksman Edin Dzeko. The Bosnia international might be exactly the sort of target man that Arsene Wenger so desperately craves - if only as a back-up for first choice frontman Olivier Giroud - but, there is precisely zero chance of Manuel Pellegrini sanctioning his sale to a Premier League title rival. Dzeko has been heavily linked with a move away from the Etihad Stadium when the transfer window reopens, as he continues to sit behind Sergio Aguero and Alvaro Negredo in the Citizens first-team pecking order. However, the 27-year-old is most likely to return to Germany, where he previously excelled in the Bundesliga with Wolfsburg, finishing the 2009/10 campaign as the countrys top goalscorer, prior to his £27million move to City in January 2011. With reports suggesting that Borussia Dortmund boss Jurgen Klopp is weighing up a bid, Dzeko would be foolish to turn down the opportunity to succeed the soon to be departing Robert Lewandowski as the main man at the Westfalenstadion. At Arsenal, Dzeko would find himself in a similar situation to the one he is in now at City; on the fringes of the starting XI, and restricted primarily to substitute appearances, both domestically and in Europe. With six goals in 12 appearances in all competitions in 2013/14, it seems that Dzeko is powerless to force his way into Pellegrinis starting line-up, and even if he were to maintain his fine goalscoring form at the Emirates Stadium, its difficult to see him dislodging Giroud at Arsenal either, given Wengers loyalty to his fellow Frenchman. Earlier this month, the striker pleaded with Pellegrini to give him more minutes, having not started a Premier League game since the end of September, and intimated that he wants an explanation from the Chilean tactician as to why he continues to be overlooked. I need to play more than I am, Dzeko was quoted by the Daily Mirror. Ive only started four games in the Premier League. But if you put me in there for 90 minutes, everything is possible. The first game of the season I played well, I just didnt score. The second game I scored, then the manager changed me. I dont know why. I think I could definitely have played more than I have done. Its difficult because you dont have a run of games, then you come into the team after maybe four games and sometimes you want to do well, but you cant do it. He added: For three games in the Premier League I didnt play at all. That never happened last season. I didnt go three games without any minutes. Theres Champions League and Capital One Cup also, but thats not enough for me. Its important to hear from the manager when youre not playing. Why are you not playing? What do you have to do better to play? For every striker its important to play 90 minutes, not 45, then 50, then maybe 15, you know? But Im still here and I still have 18 months left on my contract. But you never know what can happen in the future. That was perhaps the clearest indication yet, that Dzeko - who has scored 46 goals in 118 appearances for Manchester City - will look to move on to pastures new at the turn of the year, but unfortunately for Gunners fans, that wont be with Arsenal.
