As Christians it is easy to seek refuge in your denomination or the belief system of your local assembly. The danger is that your faith will wind up being placed in a man or a system rather than the word of God. The safety we find in people, though, is only imaginary and will always prove to be disappointing. The ideal method of spiritual growth is to be closed minded to men and rely entirely on the word of God for direction because many never recover from having their faith in a church or a man devastated. In the past year I got disappointed in people enough to lay aside all I was taught, and issue by issue, prayerfully return to only scripture for guidance on the positions God wanted me to take. Today I find myself constantly changing! Instead of trying to make the Bible see things my way I daily recognize areas where I desperately need to be sharpened, I see attitudes that need to be changed, mindsets that need to shift, love that needs to reach out more, and pride that needs to die. Ive learned that truth is liberating but that not as many are interested in it as they claim to be. Ive learned God is more interested in changing me than He is in changing others through me. Ive learned that growth, real growth, cant be forced and that holiness, faith, and modesty cant be manufactured. Ive learned that if the Bible is silent on an issue that God doesnt need me to expound on it. Its my prayer that you will get disappointed in men enough to get open minded with the word of God because I wasted a tremendous amount of time and I dont want you to make the same mistakes. I just want to be His and I just want to live for His glory.
