As Ferguson burns once again - Ill just say this: I think a knee-jerk reaction to seeing shameful acts like looting, destroying private property etc. is to disengage completely. Its sad what happened to Mike Brown, but come on people - how does looting and burning cars solve anything. Ridiculous (hands thrown in the air). Sound familiar? And while those feeling have validity, it is very important to remember that the people acting out in these ways are not in any way representative of all the protesters or people around the country feeling pain, frustration, and anger at this time. They are a small group in comparison to the millions processing this peacefully. People of color struggling with this are not one giant, angry, Little Caesars-burning monolith. And a couple of desperate, immature hoodlums do NOT invalidate the VALID pain that is being felt across the country - mostly by people of color. A pain, I might add, that is hundreds of years in the making. Maybe the grand jury made the right call. I dont know. But it doesnt at all change the bleeding reality that we have A LOT of work to do in this country towards achieving liberty and justice for ALL. So instead of throwing your hands in the air and disengaging (or writing a long diatribe in the comment section below) - grab coffee with a brother or sister of color in the next week. PLEASE!!! It will change your life and this country.
