As I always thought, this song is partially about Satan or a representation thereof, and how he proposes an easy, yet logical and cruel, and ultimately false answer to our deepest questions and longings. I dont know who wrote it, but Jon Jeary writes most of the early Threshold lyrics, and other songs on Psychedelicatessen indicate an examination of various religious truths (by who appears to be an agnostic) which would foreshadow the future dominance of Richard Wests overtly spiritual outlook. The final piece of the puzzle is at the end: what sounds like a Southern black preacher, audibly speaking about the connections between God, Satan, the Bible, and Jesus Christ.
