As I am sitting on my couch at home relaxing and reflecting on - TopicsExpress

As I am sitting on my couch at home relaxing and reflecting on this weekend, there is so much that comes to mind that I would like to express and say. Words will not do it justice. I do want to express some of it. I blame most of my aftermath emotions to the pregnancy ;), but the rest is because of the fact that I have been able to witness so much greatness this weekend and the months leading up to this weekend. Greatness in the sense of community, support, emotions and dedication of racers, family and friends. So much is captured by not only ourselves but also through the lens of so many others. I am feeling as if I just finished a race myself: tired, exhausted, achey, proud, excited, hungry (again...the pregnancy) and so happy with what was accomplished this past weekend. Even not racing, I was more anxious and nervous than I have ever been for any of my own races. Three people allowed me to be part of their journey to train for a race they decided to sign up for many months ago. Each of them had different reasons for signing up for their race. Some of the reasons have stayed the same and some changed as they went through their training, their journey. It was amazing to witness and be part of. Congratulations to: Martijn Slagers for completing his first Marathon: Berlin Marathon Lynn Potter Kirkland for completing her first Half Ironman: Augusta 70.3 Maria Cox for completing her first Ironman: Ironman Chattanooga I am so proud of their race day performance, but I am even more proud of what it took them to get there: commitment, dedication, sacrifices and trust. Truly understanding their OWN goals, motives and reasons for signing up for their race is what allowed them to do what they did. Yesterday was so much more than simply finishing a race. It was about reaching their goals. Goals that may not even be about finishing a race. They had all the tools needed to finish. A lot can happen during race day and racing can do funny things to a person. They used the tools that were given and they stayed focused on their race and their goals!! Like most of us, they also have a job, a family, and friends they want to spend time with. Sometimes you choose time with your friends over your workout and sometimes you don’t. Understanding your goals and your priorities in life will allow you to balance the things you choose to do or choose not to do. Balance (re: your balance) is what keeps this fun, exciting and allows us to continue if we choose to do so. I have seen it this weekend in so many of you who raced! What would a race or simply training for a race really mean to you if you were not able to share your experiences along the way with your fellow training buddies, volunteers, family and friends? Great job to all the amazing people who raced this weekend!! Be proud of yourself. Take time to thank your family and friends who were there throughout your journey!
