As I am standing here in the kitchen making a BIG breakfast for my 13-year old son (who plays football & soccer), I am realizing that it is becoming an increasing challenge to meet the calorie requirements of a growing teenage boy. Even though he is extremely lean, our son has always needed a lot more food than the other kids (I suspicion there is a genetic component but also I am certain the clean food he has eaten since he was weaned is metabolized differently than the processed foods most other kids eat & I think his toxic-free body metabolizes food at an astounding rate) --at any rate, one thing I have been doing for a while that is helping save me time & also helping to keep my growing guy fueled is to make extra portions of dinner and give him the leftover dinner as after school snack the next day. So, instead of crackers, pretzels, snack bars or the other after school snack foods most other kids get, our son has leftover dinner from the night before as his after school snack AND he has a SECOND dinner with the family later in the evening (bc of Andys surgical schedule we have always eaten a late family dinner---around 8:30 or so) Yes, our son eats TWO dinners, but it is an easy way to help meet the calorie requirements of a teenager while also giving them the essential nutrients they need (assuming of course the dinners are healthy!!) Hope this idea helps other parents?? If anyone else has any ideas for keeping teens (especially the boys!!) fueled, please weigh in ;) ---ivy
