As I am trying continue my rehab this (early) morning and thought you all might like to read a chapter from my next book, Thorn of Duty. CHAPTER 7 - Taken Down - Thorn of Duty As I stood in the doorway, I heard a large thwump at first. In the next moment, and before I could turn around, my left shoulder told me that the thwump was a gunshot ripping right through it. And, It was obvious that I would not hear the next one if I didnt quickly collapse down to the floor. The next one would likely be hitting my head if I failed to do so. As I dropped, I twisted to my right, pulling out my stainless steel Coonan 357 Magnum Automatic from its holster. I hit the ground on my backside without any effort to break the fall and nearly passed out from the jarring shock to my wounded left shoulder. I definitely couldnt afford to lose conciousness right then though. I had to fight to regain enough control of my body despite the pain to steady my right arm and hand to shoot back But, at what, at whom? I should not have had anything like this happen while I was within my secured perimeter. On the other hand, I know it was not a sniper shooting from outside it. A sniper would have probaby hit my head with the first shot. And then, all these questions would be pointless. Even if it had been a bad shot by a sniper, my shoulder off would have been blown off. As it was, it was a smaller caliber, and it went clean through. An unnatural wisp of air suddenly crossed my forehead. No footfalls occured though. So, the shooter was close, but not closing in yet, or so I thought. I very slowly let myself slump, looking as dead as possible without actually shaking hands with St. Peter. I also pushed my grip quietly out to my side about three feet as a decoy. Ideally, whoever was closing in me wanted the Chinese code chip set I had just stolen. And they would swiftly shift their attention to that bag from me if I seemed lifeless enough. Then, just before I made myself dead for all appearances, I slid my Coonan entirely under my right thigh with the muzzle barely peaking out from under my inside thigh. I then let my Gloch 19 slip slowly down to my fingertips with my best Imitated dead mans grip. And I waited.
