As I came groggily out front early yesterday to reappreciate Rebecca Trainors getting even the red trim done while we were away, the citys Urban Forestry team showed up with our new tree! Replacing the poorly positioned black locust and its partner elm (that started a fire last February, as we were leaving for Florida), Louie III Flores and I are now proud to be curators for the second persian ironwood in Brownes Addition. I still havent found the other one, but the arborist says its there... This is smaller than wed hoped, but will one day be a glorious shade tree on that corner, with green, red and gold leaves harmonious with the houses historic Victorian colors. We hope soon to incorporate an appropriate sign, perhaps as part of a bench, across the corner. Note the gorgeous deep pink berries now forming on the Korean ash in the final photo. That and a tulip tree we got from Urban Forestry last fall, are now about 15 feet tall and thriving! Check out their program. Your property may qualify for lovely free trees that provide shelter, homes for birds, shade, wind breaks, and cleaner air in our fair city!
