As I dressed Mom for bed last night, she was talking about all sorts of magical things. Huge trees, purple cats, glassy old men. Resolution for this year is the same as last year. To live without regrets. Caring for Mom has put me in complete touch with the present tense of life. Believe me there are many times I wish to escape the present reality of what is happening in that particular moment. Missing the moment may mean, I miss something very important, life changing, an answer to an age old life question. The pertinent Ala-non saying; With a foot in yesterday and the other in the future, you are pissing on today. is true. Getting busy, planning Moms calendar of hospice visitors, food, wash, etc keeps me on track, giving me more time to spend in quality time with her. We all respond to touch, voice, warmth, looking eye to eye and a lot of laughter, Mom is no different. Moms caregiver and nurse told me today that by all measures, Mom is still here due to simple touch, engagement and cleanliness. I know that when Mom passes I will have no regrets, nothing left unsaid, no outstanding issues unresolved, that I gave all I had and she did as well. To me it is a miracle that she is still with us, I guess she still has much more to say and even more to teach. 2015 will be one great year, bookmarked with love.
