As I explained during last weekend’s parents meeting, tournament - TopicsExpress

As I explained during last weekend’s parents meeting, tournament experience is irreplaceable towards players development. Training teaches players how to hit balls, tournament teaches players how to win. Training makes you stronger, tournament makes you champion. Training has no pressure and that translates into minimal brain activity. Tournament has pressure and that translates into maximum brain activity. If you want to learn how to win, go play tournaments. There is no other way! For beginner to intermediate level players I highly recommend them to take part in as many local tournaments as possible. Let our players learn how to compete, how to battle and most importantly how to deal with pressure. Tennis is not just about how well you can hit the ball, but more importantly how well you compete and perform under pressure. Below are some of information of our tours for this season and links to ITF Under 18, ATF Under 14 and local tournaments in Hong Kong. Send them to tournaments. Let them win, let them lose but let them learn and figure out how to be a champion. Tournament is their best teacher. Hunan Provincial Tennis Team Challenge Trip to Changsha, Hunan Province, will be from Oct 12 – 14. Let’s play with Hunan Provincial players who are now training full time to become professional tennis players. This will be a great experience for our players to play against professionally trained junior players. Hunan team is currently one of the strongest junior teams in China producing national team players for China year after year. Fee: $7,900/ player inclusive airfare, hotel, meals, transportation, insurance, etc. To apply please contact coach Benny. Deadline for application: Oct 5 subject to flight availability. Traveling coach will be coach Bhagat. Kaohsiung Taiwan Annual Christmas Tour Our tour to Kaohsiung will be tentatively from Dec 26 – Jan 3. As we all know Taiwan is one of the powerhouse tennis countries in Asia. This tour is one of our favorite tours because of a long holiday, its proximity to Hong Kong and the high quality of the players. If you can win in Taiwan, you are good! Fee (tentative): $12,900. Easter Break Tour During Easter holiday we will arrange a tournament camp to Thailand or Philippines. Details will be sent in February. Summer Tour Various tours will be arranged such as the US College Showcase tour and Southern California tour. Tentatively will be in late June for US College Showcase and on the first week of July for Southern California tour. School Holidays Intensive Camp School holidays vary from school to school. It could be difficult to organize overseas tournaments when there is insufficient number of players. In order to help our players fully utilize their school holidays (ranging from 1 – 7 days) we will be organizing Intensive Tennis Camp in Hong Kong. Please talk to your coach and he will arrange a camp with a few other players. Fees will be shared by the number of players. Typical schedule will be 1 hour of morning fitness training followed by 2 hours of tennis. Afternoon session will be regular group training. ITF Under 18 tournament schedule: itftennis/juniors/tournaments/calendar.aspx ATF Under 14 tournament schedule: asianunder14/tournamentschedule/ Local tournaments: tennishk.org Lastly, I personally believe having a goal to be a successful tennis player, such as playing US College tennis, representing your country in Davis Cup/ Fed Cup or reaching the professional level is a great, great thing for kids! Whether they reach their goal or not, our kids will learn a great deal of life skills during the whole process. Our kids will learn the value of hard work, dedication and time management, just to name a few. The whole process will definitely build their character and give a meaningful purpose and direction to their life.
