As I gave you information pertaining to recent events, I thought I would give you more background concerning the earlier times we experienced while living where we currently are. No job since my first unemployment in 1987 ever lasted more than 2 years because of downsizing. Therefore, we moved to a condominium apartment in Wappingers Falls for employment in 1990, but the reason I was hired did not last causing me a 2-hour 100-mile drive each way commuting from Wappingers Falls to Woodbury until that job ended in May 1991. Lisa was born January 1991 in Dutchess County and a false “failure to thrive” diagnosis resulted in a CPS (Child Protective Service) investigation. We traveled to Westchester Medical Center for our daughter’s care. I was unemployed for 14 months (May 1991 to July 1992) and filed a bankruptcy to discharge the accumulated debt. The upside to the long unemployment allowed me to drive my daughter where she needed to go for her care and that was driving to Albany Medical Center, as she was diagnosed as hypotonic (low muscle tone). I found some work that lasted in yearly increments and resulted in my driving a 1-hour 50-mile trip each way. Our across the hall neighbor did not like the male baby sitter we had and that required another CPS investigation resulting in their removal from our home for 7 weeks. This happened when our son was 5 years old and our daughter was 3 years old. When we got them back, I had 2 months left on unemployment, so I scrambled to find any job I could do. My black and white photography experience in high school helped me find a retail sales job in a 1-hour photo store across the river that required my driving 30-miles each way for very little more than minimum wage. Fortunately, while I was working there, a consulting (outsourcing) company hired me and they placed me at their client for employment although it was still a moderately low income and 35-mile drive each way.
