As I get older, I hate constructing footnotes for a book chapter or an article for that matter. However, I do like to look at the finished product. I thank God for my two mentors, Dr. Steven Riess and Dr. Mel Adelman, for emphasizing the importance of constructing valid and reliable footnotes. Both men emphasized to me the importance of mining the sources. People can always disagree with your perspective, but when you effecitvely mined the sources they would at least have to respect your point of view. You have done your homework. I myself emphasize to my students the importance of mining the sources.
