As I had just finished the novel, I snuck out and caught a matinee of The Drop this afternoon. The change of locale from Boston to Brooklyn was a poor choice, but otherwise its a solid bit of neo-noir. The fellow who directed the phenomenal Bullhead helmed it. I dig Tom Hardy, but thought that the sad-sack Bob might be beyond his abilities given that most women I know are all hot and bothered over him. I had no cause to fear, he nailed it. Gandolfini is great in his final screen hurrah. I wish Noomi Rapace had a little more to do, but she does an excellent job with what she has. The film made the Eric Deeds character a little less . . . troubling, and that may actually have been a wise choice. It may not be a masterpiece, but its definitely worth your time. youtube/watch?v=7lCiDIcqMe0
