As I have stated before, my lack of posting on this page is not for want of passion or important matters in which to discuss. Instead my summer vacation from teaching is focused mainly what is most important in my life, my two children and wife. That being said, my wife is working today and my two children are taking a nap, which gives me the hour or so I need to write what has been on my mind. Today, I happened across a Baltimore Sun article on the Maryland Gun Law court case taking place, and it got me thinking. If you are interested, below is my short three paragraph essay that I have also uploaded to byebyemaryland The Practical Answer is Secession Maryland’s strict gun control law, which went into effect last October, is now moving to the Federal District Court in Baltimore. The judge that will settle the case is Catherine C. Blake, a Bill Clinton appointee, who is from Massachusetts. Gun rights advocates, do not hold your breath on this one. Sure, perhaps Judge Blake will place the Constitution above her personal feelings, but how often are liberals objective in their thinking. As I have penned in many of my previous articles, objectivity is as foreign to liberals as the Constitution itself. “The ends justifies the means” is their motto. What really frustrates me, though, is not that liberals support unconstitutional laws to accomplish their ends; it is that intelligent, conservative people in this state continue to believe they have a fighting chance to hold back the liberal tide. First off, if conservatives have any chance of recapturing this state, let alone the nation, it will take generations to do so. Laws and court decisions are only a symptom of “culture,” or in Maryland’s case, a lack of culture. The key, therefore, to reverse this trend is to recreate a healthy moral culture rooted in the Natural Law of Christianity; but again, this must be done on the local level and will require a ground swell of support on par with the Great Awakening of the mid-1700s. As much as I am a man of principal, I am also one of practicality, so long as it does not contradict those same principles for which I stand. In short, it all comes back to secession. If I could only convince all those lawyers and lobbyists that represent the interests of Eastern Maryland to stop “punching at the ocean” of the liberal agenda in Maryland, and instead, put their brains, money, and energy toward creating a new state, separate from Maryland, we stand a much better chance of success. With our own new state, we will not have to prostrate ourselves at the altar of the liberal agenda in Annapolis, nor take on the herculean task of reconstituting a moral culture in Maryland. We can focus on nurturing the religious and Constitutional principles most of us in Eastern Maryland still hold dear. Does anybody hear me? ByeBye, Maryland -Patrick Henry
