As I looked at the date on my phone this morning, I realized it - TopicsExpress

As I looked at the date on my phone this morning, I realized it was my Grandpa Hammons birthday. Born in 1887 into a large family, he grew up to have a hard life. He was nearly blind, but had to function in the workplace as if he were perfect. Had a wife and seven kids to make a living for. Walked to work, had no vehicle. The family moved often, in Missouri and in the West, including Washington and Colorado. Once grandma counted and said they had moved 157 times before they finally got a place of their own. He did manual labor of any kind. One story about his work ethic was that he would get up, do his chores, cook and eat breakfast and walk to work for a man who didnt rise until 4 a.m. He would go in, build a fire and get the house warm before his employer got up.
