As I near the end of my sixth decade, I am taking time to ponder - TopicsExpress

As I near the end of my sixth decade, I am taking time to ponder on those sixty years of life I have walked. From birth to the age of fourteen I lived in the arid desert of Arizona. The next year was spent on the streets of San Francisco, living the life of a Hippie. From the age of fifteen to almost seventeen I was back at home with my parents and siblings, going to school and working for my parents. I became pregnant by my best friend after a particularly drunken night, and we did the ‘Ozzie and Harriet’ thing, marrying, and staying so for almost thirty-two years. We were blessed with three wonderful children, who then went on to bless us with six delightful grandchildren. We eventually went our separate ways. From the age of forty-nine to fifty-three I was married to my second husband, more of a business arrangement than lovers. Together we traveled to Europe several times, with Ireland being our main focus. We divorced in July 2008 after he attempted to conduct ‘DNA Testing’ multiple times on a mutual friend by licking her tongue, LOL! In September 2008, after a two week trip to Ireland, I had a profound and complete breakdown which left me without a job or home. I was set adrift to figure life out all over again. In November 2008, I met my former fiancée at that time, with whom I had an on again/off again relationship. In 2013 I started a non-profit organization for Combat Veterans and their families and returned to school with my major in Psychology. My relationship with my fiancée ended shortly after being diagnosed with cancer and after my bilateral mastectomies in January 2014. After my surgeries I found that I needed to return to the Bay Area in California in order to heal from the cancer, and to be with my children and grandchildren where I could receive the love, care and support that was lacking in Arizona. Now, here I am today, on the verge of my seventh decade, chomping at the bits. I need to be doing something productive and fruitful, so I am moving forward with A Circle Of Warriors and getting the ball rolling. I learned this morning that there are a minute number of NPO’s for Combat Veterans here in this area, and I understand the importance of helping these women and men who selflessly gave of themselves for us!
