As I said the other night Coco Chanel, a very famous French designer is given credit for being the first to create the clothes of the Roaring 20s. All of the fashions below are her designs. The second photo shows the famous and popular beaded flapper dress worn to dances and the speakeasies. In the Art Deco style in addition to the sequins and beads it has sheer netted ruffled tiers down the sides. Coco Chanel also created the headwear shown in the 3rd photo and is quoted as saying, A woman needs ropes and ropes of pearls. Chanel is also given credit for being the creator of costume jewelry. Another very popular fashion was a short wedding dress but still wearing a long veil. In addition to the short dresses, with the pearls, and beading, Chanel also designed slacks which she preferred for herself. The last photo shows Chanel with Serge Lifa who was a good friend of Gabrielle Coco Chanel. He was the principal dancer of the Ballet Russes in the late 1920′s which was a Ballet company that Coco patronized and for whom she designed costumes.
