As I see it, part of the story why Chinese company, StarTimes - TopicsExpress

As I see it, part of the story why Chinese company, StarTimes Kenya/Signet got unlimited digital broadcasting frequencies was a way of of Kenya govt paying back for all Chinese goodies weve been receiving since 2003. Its a sought of quid pro quo arrangement - scratch my back I scratch yours, nothing is for free after all. Of course the govt wouldnt say this lest it upsets the apple cart. Politics is hard business. That aside, the three media houses crying foul are also to blame here. They imagined since they control majority viewership, they could go toe to toe with CAK (regulator) and force its way into digital broadcasting in their terms. Both CAK and the media houses dug in and got completely consumed with the court proceedings in all levels such that they wasted so much time whilst the competitors were selling decoders and digital migration deadline fast approaching. Now they neither have the digital licence nor the set top boxes and time is clearly not on their side. They might not be saying it but clearly they are irked by missing out on the business of selling decoders. Though I sympathise with their concerns, they were a tad too hubristic for their own good. Lets hope this sad scenario is resolved sooner rather than later.
