As I see lamenting on Facebook today regarding the vote on legalization of medical marijuana I would like to share a little perspective on this from a conservative, middle aged voter. I really wanted to pass this amendment for the sake of those who would be truly helped by it. I do not want to deny someone the relief they might receive medicinally from pot. However, I could not get past the clause that basically said it would be sold from independent distributors in special stores. I honestly dont want pot shops popping up all over the state and certainly not in my town. If the amendment would have stipulated that the pot would have been sold through a pharmacist, I would have voted yes. For those of us not sold on the idea of total legalization of marijuana it just gave the appearance of going beyond medicinal legalization. It is too bad, because there are people who could benefit from it tremendously. I daresay that many, if not a majority, of the people supporting this amendment were much more hopeful about the possibilities of being able to one day recreationally smoke pot in our state than they were concerned about people that truly could have benefited from it for medical reasons. Sorry, but that is the way I see it and why I voted no.
