As I sit here and reflect on what this day means all across - TopicsExpress

As I sit here and reflect on what this day means all across America, I, too, remember where I was and what I was doing that day 13 years ago, and those feelings I had that day, come right back. As strongly as I remember this day ... I also have deep rooted feelings for this day, for another eventful and highly emotional memory. At near midnight on this day, three years ago, I received a phone call that no law enforcement supervisor ever wants to receive. The call was one of my deputies has had a very bad car accident while on duty and responding to an accident with a lady trapped inside ... The call from dispatch said it did not look good and I needed to get there as soon as I could. While enroute to the Deputys accident, I had to inquire about the first accident and if the lady was ok. I was told she was out of her vehicle and being tended to by EMS. I was also told, a helicopter was on its way to pick up my Deputy. With this being said, I knew it was bad ... and it was. I was also told, the Deputy involved, was not only a member of my staff, but was a very loyal friend, which made me drive even faster. When I got to the scene, I was told the Deputy kept asking for me and demanded to see me. I got to his patrol car (which was smashed like no other) and he was laying on an EMS backboard and would not let them move him until I got there. When the Paramedics told him I was there, he yelled something I will never forget ... Donny, I wrecked my car! LOL!!! After he told me that, he allowed the EMS crew to load him into the ambulance and await the helicopter to take him to OKC. My partner received amazing care at OU Medical Center in OKC and was released back home a few days later. I thank God every day, for looking out for this Deputy, my cooworker, my go to guy, my loyal supporter, and my good friend. Today, David W Jones and I are back to working side by side, for another wonderful Sheriffs Office. So today, I pray for all the families effected by the horrific things that happened so many years ago, and also for my friend and his family back here at home. God Bless you my friend. Dont work too hard out there today ... I got your back!
