As I sit tonight, I look proudly at the recent accomplishment of my community as we try to rewrite our legacy. The City of St Francis, like all communities, has had its ups and downs. Today was a day where I really was able to sit back and look at what weve built together. I received phone calls and emails from four news outlets today, doing a story on the heroine epidemic, and they all wanted to know the same thing. What is it that St. Francis and the SFCDA have done, to rally the community together to make a difference, and take a stand to protect our kids from the dangers of drug abuse. They asked how we built this organization, that in its first year of existence, was awarded the Anoka County Public Health Award. But mostly they wanted to know what advice we had to offer others who look to us for guidance in this critical role. Also tonight, a community based organization that is the St Francis Rec Center committee, was acknowledged with unanimous support from the Mayor and City Council, as they have committed to supporting a partnership between the St. Francis Economic Development Authority and the SFRCC. The agreement will allow the SFRCC to commence the proceedings to begin the feasibility study that will analyze the needs of this community, in order to build a Rec center/ Athletic complex that will serve the greater St. Francis community for decades to come. All of this amazing work, has been accomplished by a community committed to writing their own legacy. This is the new story of St. Francis.
