As I sit working on my Christmas Eve sermon, and checking all the - TopicsExpress

As I sit working on my Christmas Eve sermon, and checking all the last minute details tomorrow Christmas Eve service, listening to the wind as it blows against the church. Amidst, all the crazy details that crowd my time before Christmas Eve, I am drawn to pray for those whose hearts are particularly heavy this day. I think of members, and friends whose lives are in transition this Christmas, as they face their first Christmas without dear loved ones, or a loss of a job,or dealing with the pain of divorce. I pray for those who this Christmas are battling illness, those who know this will be their final Christmas upon this earth. My heart is drawn this day to those whose family life is wrought with dysfunction, and turmoil, and for whom the holidays are anything but jolly and bright. As I hear the song Ill be home for Christmas, I pray for the solider, the marine, the airman or sailor, who will spend this Christmas far from home, and for the family members whose only wish for Christmas is that their loved ones return home safe. And intermingled with these prayers, and pastoral needs that consume my time and prayers, I am drawn to that stable in Bethlehem, to remember the words of the angels to shepherds watching in the fields, Do not not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is Christ, the Lord. May each of us take but a moment, to lift a prayer up before the Lord and ask His blessing and care upon someone in need. That this Christmas there might be countless souls that find more than a babe lying in a manger, but who find a Savior in Christ Jesus! I ask Gods peace and His abundant love to all my facebook friends. That you may come to know this Christmas season how much God loves you, to have sent His Son into this world to live and die for us!
