As I started to the Halls of Justice this Christmas morning the sun was just starting to peek over the horizon ; I reflected back to a Christmas morning many years ago. Two engines, Tanker 22,Ambulance 208 and me 900 responding to a house fire on Coles Ferry Pike some volunteers checking in route leaving the warmth and safety of their families to help a person in need, red and white lights cutting thru the darkness to early for sirens just like Santa we were the only ones stirring. On the FM radio in my unit Ill be Home for Christmas started playing and I remember thinking no those folks in the units ahead of me ,those volunteers checking in route they will all miss the excitement of wrapping paper torn from boxes ,the laughter, smiles and aromas of the morning, they wont be home for this Christmas. This scene from my memory will play out across this nation hundreds of times today, the men and women of emergency services/law enforcement will answer the calls for help placing their safety on the line and their holiday on hold to protect others. Today all across the world emergency personnel,911 operators, law enforcement ,military, hospital staff, utility crews are manning their post to keep us safe, for that we should be grateful. I am proud to have served with those responders and to call so many of you my second family. The emergency service and law enforcement officers across this great nation need our support in these turbulent times more than ever in recent history. Today as you tear open those gifts and settle in for a family meal please take a minute to offer a prayer of support and safety for the folks holding the lines to keep you safe and free. MERRY CHRISTMAS to Everyone! Be safe my emergency family! ...born this day a Savior who is Christ our Lord..
