As I stood on the back steps of the house earlier this evening, - TopicsExpress

As I stood on the back steps of the house earlier this evening, surveying my little kingdom (queendom?), I glanced to my left to see what the horses were up to, and noticed that Jezebel and her three kits from this year were down at the far corner of the fence. Jezebel was munching steadily on the food I had left out for them, while the kits alternated between nibbling and romping. Red fox kits are VERY playful! I watched for a little while, chuckling every now and then over a particularly acrobatic leap, then movement in my peripheral vision caught my attention, and I swiveled to the right. There were three young deer, exhibiting what I can only describe as a severe case of the zoomies. They leaped and ran and zigged and zagged at unbelievable speeds. For almost half an hour, I looked from left to right as if I were seated at the net at Wimbledon. There was little to no traffic on the nearby highway, so the only sounds were the occasional yap from the dogs, the wind in the trees, snorts and whickers from the horses...peace and serenity was the order of the day. Did this erase any of the worlds troubles? No, of course not. But what it DID do was refresh my heart and soul, and it eased the rough spots where life has rubbed me raw. I wish that everyone could experience moments like this one...
