As I walked into my office today it was a milestone day as I walked into the American Diabetes Association celebrating my 19th anniversary as Executive Director with this organization. Many milestones in diabetes news have happened during that time. 11 million Americans were affected by diabetes back in 1994, today that number has swelled to 26 Million. In addition, 1 in 3 children born today will be diagnosed with diabetes in their lifetime. As I begin my second decade, my goal is to educate people about the risks of developing diabetes and that diabetes-TYPE 1, TYPE 2 or gestational diabetes are ALL serious and incurable diseases. I will continue to work to put myself out of a job as we at the American Diabetes Association continue to work to STOP Diabetes!
