As I was going through my archives, I accidentally came across an article I wrote three years back and I thought it will be better to re-write it today. “Although I may not be able to prevent the worst from happening, I am still responsible for my actions towards the inevitable misfortunes and quagmires that darkens my life. Bad things do happen and how I respond to them defines my character and the quality of my life. I can choose to sit back in perpetual sadness; immobilized by the gravity of my own calamities or I can choose to rise from the pain and treasure the most precious gift I have – "life itself.” This phrase, reminded me of what my grandfather once told me before he took his last breath. He said to me: 'Son we are all born to manifest the glory that is within us, success is not just in some of us, it is in every one of us and as we let our own light to shine, we unconsciously give others the permission to do the same' Being consumed by such thoughts, i then recalled what Mbeki said: 'As we liberate ourselves from our own fears, our presence automatically liberates others' Funny it may seem, but I am the guy that is going to re-write the narrative history of our people. I am the man that will liberate the oppressed mind of an African child. My legacy will never be wasted in the pages of history. Many will tell their sons and daughters that once up on a time Africa gave birth to an ordinary man that strived so tirelessly to free the oppressed mind of an African child. Allow me to cease by saying, “In order to see far, you need to stand on the shoulders of Giants” and it for his quote that I chose source my inspirations to protagonist such as Thabo Mbeki, Malcom X, Gaddaffi, Robert Mugabe, Kwame Nkrumah, Che Guevara, Mao Moa Tse tung, Julius Nyerere and all heroes and heroines that changed people’s lives. We are Indeed the embodiments of the information we chose to receive and act up on. May the power of writing continue to liberate the oppressed mind of an African child.
