As I watched this group of soldiers become absorbed in the music and words of this powerful song, I could imagine for a moment these same soldiers as children, growing up in church, in Sunday school, bible school, mothers morning out, weekday school. Small children waving their little hands and arms in movements that they remember again, years later in foreign countries. I watched their movements become strong, and as one their voices soared filling the makeshift chapel. Their inspiration, in the face of false prophets, misguided zealots, and the brink of yet another war, the one and only true God. Are these the days of Elijah? No one knows. But I thank God and these brave men and women who make so many sacrifices to keep me safe. May God continue to inspire them and keep them safe as well.
