As Indigenous people we have always been sovereign,,we have jurisdiction over our lives & land. It has only been since contact that the invaders forced assimilation, the violence of colonialism, capitalist greed, acts of genocide upon our lives, that has refused to recognize indigenous title and rights. Only when we as a people remove the shackles of a system bent on controlling and destroying land and life will we live up to our responsibilities to the land and the future generations.
