As Nigeria braces up for the National Newborn Conference, we continue to emphasize the importance of improved quality of care especially around the time of labour/birth. This includes improved access to life-saving commodities such as chlorhexidine and antibiotics; improved deployment of well-trained and well-motivated midwives; more collaborative partnerships around awareness-raising and behaviour change communication for improved health-seeking behaviour, especially regarding ante-natal care and skilled birth attendance; and a generally strengthened health system, in order to reverse the tide of newborn morbidity and mortality that has plagued Nigeria over the past decades. #NigeriaNewborns newbornhealthnigeria/
