As-Salaam Alaikum, The description of the perfect servitude of Muhammad, peace upon him, is the highest honor bestowed upon him. Hence, when Allah, Most High, mentions in the Qur’an the moments when He has exalted the Prophet, peace upon him, and bestowed upon him blessings not given to anyone else, it is in the context of his servitude. For example, All praise is fittingly for Allah who has revealed unto His servant the scripture. (18:1). Similarly, when He mentions the Night Journey (Isra’), He mentions it in the context of the servitude of the Prophet, All Praise is for Allah who has carried His servant by night from the Sacred Mosque to the Furthest Mosque, whose precincts He has blessed… (17:1). This divinely guided journey occurred in the aftermath of the debacle at Ta’if, where the Prophet, peace upon Him, had suffered greatly. The painful affair occurring at Ta’if happened in the aftermath of the severe boycott inflicted on him and his followers by the Quraysh, during which his protector, Abu Talib, and his beloved wife, Khadija, passed away. Through this journey, Allah consoled and reassured him by letting him know that his standing with Allah remained lofty. Hence, Allah places emphasis on his servitude, peace upon him. This is the highest station that humans can aspire to attain—the station of perfect servitude. For the more perfect our servitude, the more exalted the Lordship of Allah is with us. As believers we want to be servants of Allah for we recognize that it is our servitude to Allah that liberates us from servitude to all else. Allah reminds us that this is the rationale governing our creation. He mentions in the Qur’an, I have only created the Jinn and Humans that they serve me. (51:56).
