As Tolkien drew almost exclusively from Norse myth, in my mind, - TopicsExpress

As Tolkien drew almost exclusively from Norse myth, in my mind, his works qualify as just another retelling... which is what myth has been and always will be. (Elements of the Hobbit were appropriated nearly whole cloth from Beowulf.) That said, here is my mothers interpretation of a hobbit hole. The miniature includes a hallway and a kitchen, but all I have a shot of is the den. The scene portrayed here is *after* the main events outlined in There and Back Again, when Balin and Gandalf pay Bilbo a visit. In addition to designing and constructing the hole, my mother actually sculpted and clothed the figures. Gandalf was modeled after Patrick Stewart, and he is, to her best estimation, anatomically correct. And you wonder why my songs are naughty? Thanks Mom.
