As a black man growing up in the Marine Corps, I understand fully - TopicsExpress

As a black man growing up in the Marine Corps, I understand fully where hes coming from. My first duty station was at Camp Lejeune NC where I was a very young and talented Financial Programmer. I remember some of the African American employees coming to me and telling me They must love you... Now I grew up in the mostly African American city of New Orleans but anyone who knows me know that my friends covered the entire visible light spectrum so I really didnt care about racism. I spent most of my time in church and truly enjoyed growing up as a Christian. Pastor Ray, Janet Taranto, Larry Larry G Pop Ranson, Micah Taranto, Joey Taranto, Linda Braai Hardman, Lionel Davis and on and on were like family to me. Either they were my best of friends or their children were my best of friends. Anyway, I was perplexed by the statement and asked why they said that. They told me that every African American 4063 COBOL Programmer that came to the RASC, was quickly moved to other sections within the command... Hmm Is that an honor or should I feel disgusted... Maybe both... Ya see, I was blessed with a good noodle and have done my best to capitalize on the gifts that have been given to me. And if you truly know me, I just dont think of myself, I always put others first.... Anyway, I never let that hold me back. When I joined, I knew the Marine Corps was a club controlled by The white man and we brothas had to work twice as hard to get ahead. Worse yet were women cause they have to work three times as hard to make it in the Corps. Anyway, I remember Mr. Osmond and I were having a little chit chat and he chuckled a little and said There used to be this one guy working here, a colored guy... OK break. By then, I stopped listening to him and in my head I was laughing saying Did Mr. Osmond just called us colored? Doesnt he know that we have gotten two upgrade names since then... hahaha Now, I could have acted ignorant but I didnt. He grew up in an time when that was perfectly acceptable... I have encountered a few local police and state troopers in my life and I am always respectful and ensure that I comply with whatever they say. No questions and like the guy in the video stated, I normally have a good convo with them and most of the time they let me off with a warning. Now if I feel as though they are mistreating me, I will take them to court and bring whatever supporting evidence I have, audio video whatever. We do live in the land of the free and 99% of our peace officers are GTG and help keep the peace. Anyway, these two videos are my take... https://youtube/watch?v=f3PJF0YE-x4 liveleak/view?i=af2_1407944916
