As a caucasian woman, when I moved here I went to the DMV and traded my Texas drivers license for a Florida one (June 2013). I also registered to vote there at the DMV as a registered Floridian voter. My wife, Kim Pierce, an African American did the same. Problem is, when we went to early vote yesterday at the library, Kims voter registration was not found. She updated her address recently with the DMV and the DMV states that THIS was when she actually registered to vote and therefore it was AFTER the date to successfully cast a ballot for this Novembers mid term elections. How is it that we went to do the SAME things, at the SAME place, at the SAME time and yet, MINE (white) was done correctly and hers (black) was NOT done. Things that make you go hummmm....and realize THIS is precisely why Florida has a reputation of voter fraud and extreme racism. THEN, to top it all off, while the nice caucasian woman was explaining to Kim that the DMV is notorious for not turning in their forms properly, Kim asked her why they allow the DMV to take voter registrations, and the woman replies to Kim, Well, its like going to the post office to get welfare. Seriously? You mention welfare to an African American woman why? Are you making the assumption that ALL Africa Americans are on government assistance. Does she realize how she is racially profiling? Is she aware of her subconscious or conscious racism, classism and bigotry? Saints, we can do better than this. We HAVE to do better than this. Its time to get past this madness and begin to make the US a better place....If we claim to be the land of the brave and the free, then let ALL our people be free. We shall overcome. ONE DAY. Let that day be today. #tiredofmypeopleactinglikethis. #readyforthedaywhenallpeoplereallyarefree #wehaveMUCHworktodo. Rant concluded.
