As a child I had a very weak constitution, many serious illnesses, and severe allergies that kept me indoors. My first near-death experience was about age 6 and the second about 11. They changed me profoundly. But I roamed all of space and time in books. My favorites were scifi and the classics. Les Miserables produced my first great awakening at about 11, and Wuthering Heights a second a few years later. Both books staggered me, destroyed all my assumptions, and permanently dislodged me from business as usual. What books or authors had the most profound effect on you as a youth? Lets make a reading list for young people. Im going to compile a Top 10 list here based on your suggestions. Siddhartha by Herman Hesse Animal Farm by George Orwell Silent Spring by Rachell Carson Lord of the Flies by William Golding Stranger in a Strange Land by Robert A. Heinlien
