As a child of an immigrant family CBC TV and Radio taught me - TopicsExpress

As a child of an immigrant family CBC TV and Radio taught me everything I needed to know and understand about my new home land. I listened to, and watched with wide eyes, stories about Canadians from Gander to Comox. I learned, through well produced documentaries, about the beauty of the vast regions that our Country is comprised of. I discovered the proud diversity, social fabric and intensely good values that make Canadians who we are. I uncovered, through its programs, our self deprecating humour and our quiet unparalleled skills. CBC was, and remains for me 50 years later, the window into the culture, ethos and makeup of this place I so proudly call home. I never dreamed then that I would one day be somehow a part of the CBC family - helping to celebrate, through Dragons Den, the entrepreneurial spirit of Canadians. I just knew then, as I know now, that our great Country and the CBC are inextricably linked. No other Network comes close to representing Canadian culture and none produce and air remotely as much home made content. Content that is uniquely representative of the people, like you and me, who call Canada home. We need to support the CBC. There is incredible talent and knowledge resident in the skilled people who work there. People who chose to work at this network because they care about Canadian content. Perhaps it must live in a new form. But never should we diminish its enduring value and not proudly acknowledge and support it for what it is - incredibly important to Canadians.
