As a cyclist on the road I often feel the only thing that will - TopicsExpress

As a cyclist on the road I often feel the only thing that will keep me safe from drivers is a set of those spiked whirling extensions like on the chariots in Ben Hur. So I understand the reasoning of those cyclists who want to use the sidewalk, but its not only wrong, its illegal for bikes with tires over 24 in diameter.* (Personally, I would make an exception for pre-teen children no matter what their wheel size.) Recently, while walking, I was sideswiped by a sidewalk cyclist who was talking on his phone. The same day, on the way home I saw one riding on the road beside the curb - on the wrong side of a heavily trafficked major city street. Are basic rules of safety for both drivers and cyclists too hard to grasp in the age of entitlement? /here endeth the rant. * TORONTO MUNICIPAL CODE CHAPTER 950, TRAFFIC AND PARKING 950-12 February 20, 2014 § 950-201.
