As a die hard Bears fan, first I want to say congrats to the Bills, they exploited the failure of the Bears to stop the Read Option and their Defense played physical, which is typical of a Jim Schwartz Defense. The Bills have one of the best D-Lines in the league and the Bears O-Line did a very good job giving Jay time to throw the ball. The Bears threw the ball way too much. 17 carries from Forte is not enough, especially since he was averaging over 4 yards a carry. The problem I saw with the Bears offense is sloppy play. When I say sloppy play I am talking about not running good routes and miscommunication. If you look at Jays first pick, he threw it off of his back foot instead of stepping into the throw, but Bennett ran the wrong route. Jay placed the ball where Bennett should have been, but given that Jay saw Bennett going over the top, he should have thrown it higher and deeper, he had time to step up quick and launch. The second pick was all Jay. He should have ran for the first or just threw the ball away. You also had the play where the ball went right through Fortes hands in the end zone. granted it was good D, but he should have hauled it in. The Bears Offense also failed to make 2nd half adjustments and came out playing the same offense and tried to get cute on some plays. Now for the Defense. What can I say, lack of gap assignment discipline and patience against the Read Option killed them. Tucker never adjusted the D to defend the Read Option. They looked out of place and they got beat off the snap. The Bears D-line did place pressure on Manuel, but they allowed him to roll out instead of containing him in the pocket. The Bills attacked the safeties all day. Conte had a pick, but still played poor. The first drive on Offense from the Bears was a thing of beauty, but it was all down hill after that. I think this is exactly what the Bears needed and I hope this serves as a major wake up call. What I saw is fixable with the Offense. The Defense is fixable too especially now that they have a full game tape to review. I am expecting more discipline from Cutler and the offense next week and an improved showing by the Defense. If by week 5, the Defense is still in shambles, then Tucker needs to go. Emery has provided him the tools to succeed and install his defense. They have had an entire offseason to work on the D and it didnt show in week 1. Anyways, it was week 1 and their are 16 weeks left. The season is not over because we start 0-1, the schedule doesnt help, but they just need to take it one week at a time and continue to get better. I have faith that Trestman and Emery will get it done. The Question is will Tucker clean up his Defense? Last year we would have killed to hold teams to only 20 points. I am still expecting great things from this offense and I would rather the team fix the problems early than breakdown after week 10 and fall flat. How many times have we started hot and ended cold? If this is still happening by week 5 or 6, then its time to hit the panic button, but Week 1, just chalk it up as mistake filled loss, learn from the mistakes and move on. BEAR DOWN!!!!
